The Healing Powers of Sacred Oriental Music

Many great philosophers, throughout history, have written lamentations on how Oriental music is of vital importance to the human spirit. Studies have shown how Chinese culture, has used music as a force for healing. The studies revealed that they have an incredibly rich history of music-making.

Scientific Studies suggest that "Oriental music gave expression to those thoughts and emotions too expansive and too deeply felt for our rudimentary languages". Indeed, one could argue that music still provides this function today. Although our languages have evolved, we still feel the desire to express the ineffable through music.

In addition, there is a vast wealth of scientific research which has revealed the benefits of Oriental music in healing patients, studies showed how music built up an environment of love, acceptance and trust for a patient attempting to recover from an illness. In addition, studies found that Oriental music connects individuals with their emotions and self-awareness, creating a healing environment. Oriental music therapy transformed their patients' lives.

It empowered them, gave them a renewed sense of self, a means of expression and a sense of purpose which transformed the illness experience. This is but a tip of the iceberg into thousands of years of philosophical thought and scientific research which has arrived at the same conclusion: Oriental music can have a profound effect on the mind, body and soul. Furthermore, Oriental music can be used as a spiritual tool for personal development and healing.

Enjoy this video to experience the healing powers of Oriental music.

Amazing Benefits of Loving Kindness Meditation (Metta)

Metta or loving-kindness meditation is the simple practice of directing well-wishes towards other people. Here are the 4 main benefits:

1. Increases Positive Emotions
If you’re looking to boost your happiness and well-being, loving kindness meditation could be just the practice for you. One study showed that practicing seven weeks of Loving Kindness Meditation increased multiple positive emotions including love, joy, contentment, gratitude, pride, hope, interest, amusement, and awe.

2. Quiets Your Inner Critic
We all have an internal dialogue and near constant chatter that goes on inside our minds. For many of us, this voice inside our heads can be downright nasty. Research shows this critical voice can be tamed through practicing Loving Kindness

3. Strengthens your Capacity for Empathy
Because of recent advances in the field of neuroplasticity, we know that what we think, do, and pay attention to changes the structure and function of our brains. And guess what? Regularly practicing Loving Kindness Meditation has been shown to activate and strengthen areas of the brain responsible for empathy. One of the most important benefits of empathy is that it improves relationships.

4. Increases Compassion
According to the Dalai Lama, love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive. The good news is: Loving Kindness Meditation may be one of the most effective practices for increasing compassion. Being more compassionate has a host of benefits, including improved health, well-being, and relationships.

AUM, the sound of universal perfection.

Healing, has been defined as a spiritual awakening with profound impact on the physical body. This transformation of consciousness is at the core of yoga or meditation and is also the foundational principal of the Himalayan Singing Bowls (also known as Tibetan bowls.)  Tuned to the vibrational frequency of AUM, the sound of universal perfection, the inner music of the soul that reawakens in us our connection to the universe, theories singing bowls can be used as a yoga tool as their frequencies gently penetrate and calm the body/mind to promoting a deeper understanding of the asanas.

Because the bowls work through brainwave entrainment, and our brainwaves synchronize to the frequency of the bowls (AUM) their sound facilitates harmonious breath and movement flow, helping to avoid strain and stress while holding asanas. The sound vibrations balance the hemispheres of the brain, initiate the relaxation response and increase the practitioners ability to move through resistances such as weakness, fatigue, pain, stiffness, and emotional tension.  The Tibetan bowls carry the energy of the Tibetan Buddhist principal of Voidness which teaches the interrelationship of all things, so as the brain entrains with their sound the practitioner may experience both a sense of surrender to and complete connection with the universe.

Tibetan Singing Bowls: The Power of Sound Healing

Tibetan Singing Bowls: The Power of Sound Healing
For centuries, the Tibetan people have practiced sound healing and consciousness transformation with a musical instrument known as a “singing bowl.” Modern science now reveals the healing secrets of these mystical metal bowls.

The resonance produced by these hand-crafted bowls can measurably improve human immune function, lower heart rate and blood pressure, soothe pain in cancer patients, and drastically reduce stress levels. Indeed, the bowls dissipate stress to such a tremendous degree that the body becomes a perfect receptacle of deep healing.
Sound Healing: Profound Effects for Stress, Pain, Immunity, and Cancer Recovery

Science stands behind the effects of therapeutic sound. Dr. David Simon, medical director of the Deepak Chopra center in California, found that sound vibrations from Tibetan bowls and chanting are chemically metabolized into “endogenous opiates.” These substances act on the body as internal painkillers and healing opiates.

Dr. Mitchell Gaynor, director of medical oncology and integrative medicine at the Strang-Cornell Cancer Prevention Center in New York, was introduced to singing bowls by a Tibetan monk patient.

Dr. Gaynor soon began using the bowls and other sound therapies to help his cancer patients — whether to relieve the stress and shock of diagnosis or to soothe the pain associated with chemotherapy and other treatments.

Dr. Gaynor has also conducted extensive research on how singing bowls can stimulate healing. Evidence suggests that the tones of the bowls stimulate physiological immunity.

“Sound can actually change our immune system,” explains Dr. Gaynor. “Our Interluken-1 level, which is an index of our immune system, goes up between 12 ½ and 15% after Gregorian chanting or listening to certain forms of music. And after listening to this music for 20 minutes, our immunoglobin levels in our blood are significantly increased.”

According to Dr. Gaynor, therapeutic sound affects our bodies on a cellular and sub-cellular level. “There is not an organ system in our body that is not affected by sound, music, and vibration,” he says. “Sound can help people who are sick, especially cancer patients.”

Why Meditation makes you so Happy

Meditation allows you to increase your happiness by detaching from your emotions, instead of becoming consumed by them. For example, if you recently broke up with a long term partner after years of an intimate relationship, and you find your mind is constantly ‘going’ with negative chatter – blame, guilt, anger, frustration and the ‘he said, she said’ that often arises from a good relationship gone bad, meditation strengthens your mindfulness, which enhances your ability to detach and have a clear, fresh perspective on the past.

Studies have shown that when you meditate, you tune into a consciousness that isn’t always possible when you’re living in a mindless state. For example, if a co-worker or spouse is yelling at you, what’s a natural first reaction? To yell back, become silent, or at the very least, be defensive. After all, what’s their problem? It’s easy to blame instead of stepping back and taking responsibility for your part in the argument when someone else is yelling and acting as if we are the only one to blame.

But, when you meditate, as clinical studies from UCLA have shown, you have the ability to think more rationally, logically and from several perspectives. (In other words, you’re able to detach with heightened reasoning skills and awareness.)

Lastly, meditation can allow you to develop a serene calmness, which can help you to cool down and communicate more effectively in your relationships. And as everyone knows, the quality of your relationships offers a direct correlation to the happiness in your life. Better communication equals better quality of life. So breath deep, meditate and enjoy the benefits it brings!

Feel free to use this video for your meditation practice. The soothing sounds of the Tibetan flute and singing bowl will fill your mind and soul with calmness and peace. Please share this video and article with your friends and help me to spread the message of Love, Peace and Happiness.

Thank you and have a blessed day.
